Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has charged the newly inaugurated board members of the Ghana Revenue Authority to mindful of the trust and confidence the nation has reposed in them.

Ken Ofori-Atta explains that the Ghana Revenue Authority remains a very critical institution to the state as far as the COVID-19 economic recovery of the country is concerned. He admonished the new board members to discharge their duties with the utmost integrity in order not to betray the trust of the people of Ghana .

Speaking at the swearing in ceremony of the board members in Accra on Tuesday, Ken Ofori Atta further charged the nine-member board to implement policies that will revamp Ghana’s domestic revenue mobilization. According to the finance minister, enhanced revenue mobilization is at the very heart of Ghana’s recovery agenda since the country is in dire need of funds to finance its capital and recurrent expenditure.

“The task ahead is not going to be easy. We are mindful of the sacred trust that the nation that the nation is reposing in you as the board of this authority and mobilize the needed revenue for our recurrent and capital expenditure. Enhancing domestic resource mobilization is at the very heart of the economic recovery and essential to our national medium term development policy framework as captured in the Ghana Beyond Aid Agenda of the government of President Akufo-Addo,” Ken Ofori-Atta expressed.

Accepting the task on behalf of other board members, Chairman of the Board, Dr. Tony Oteng Gyasi indicated that the new board is aware of the importance of GRA to government at this particular moment. He assured the president and the minister that his board will bring their expertise to bear to achieve the objectives set out for them.

“We acknowledge the strategic importance of GRA to our economy. We have duly taken note of the minister’s message this morning with keen interest. In particular, I think he has set out our job for us. He has set the parameters for what we should be aiming to do and achieve. Considering the diverse background of members of the board, we will be right in assuring the president and the minister that we are equal to the task which has been set for us and with a common will shall deliver on our mandate,” Dr. Oteng Gyasi remarked.

Other members of the board are Rev. Ammishaddai Owusu Amoah, Commissioner-General of GRA, Dr. Maxwell Opoku Afari, first deputy governor of Bank of Ghana, Rev. Professor Ohene Kyei, former vice chancellor of the Pentecost University College, Mr. Kwabena Boateng, Mrs Dela Obeng Sakyi, a legal practitioner, Hon. Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah Adjei, deputy minister for Trade and Industry and representative from the Ministry of Finance.
