The National Association of Public Health Students have pledged their support for the Ghana Health Service in ensuring electorates remain safe in the upcoming voter registration exercise.

The group says it will partner with the Health Service to ensure adherence to all safety precautionary measures by the public during the exercise.

This follows a notice by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye which urged all Regional Health Directors to deploy health personnel to provide health support during the voter registration exercise which commences on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.

According to the statement, it is the primary responsibility of the health staff at the centres to provide medical support in the area of sensitization on the COVID-19 protocols, taking body temperatures of all potential registrants, ensuring mandatory use of nose masks, social distancing and hygiene protocols.

In a statement on Saturday, June 27, 2020, the Deputy Secretary of the group, Kofi Jean Claude indicated that the group will conclude negotiations with the Ghana Health Service on this partnership come Monday, June 29, 2020.

“I write on behalf of the Executives of the National Association of Public Health Students-Ghana, to inform the general public that, the Association intends to partner with the Ghana Health Service to ensure that all the safety precautionary measures are observed during the new voter registration exercise. We want to ensure that electorates remain safe and healthy after the registration process,” parts of the statement read.

“There is however going to be a final negotiation between the Association and the Ghana Health Service on Monday, hence all applicants will be notified of the outcome regarding this exercise.”

The Association of Health Students has, as part of preparations towards the exercise, called for “applications of interested persons/students with public health, nursing, environmental health and hygiene, community nutrition, and any health-related background.”
