Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC has described the administration of the former President John Dramani Mahama as more dangerous than the Chinese Coronavirus.

His comments come after ranking member of Parliament’s Health Committee and Minority spokesperson on Health, Kwamena Mintah Akandoh stated that the Akufo-Addo administration’s preparedness for the virus in terms of funding is insufficient.

Government, through the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu announced that it had made available an amount of ¢11 million in addition to the initial ¢2.8million to help deal with the COVID-19 once a case is confirmed in Ghana.

Despite this, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh believes the resources designated for dealing with a possible coronavirus outbreak in the country is simply not enough.

Speaking in an interview on Net 2 TV, however, Abronye DC said there is no need for Government to dedicate too much money to the fight of a virus which is not yet in the country.

According to him, opposition members of parliament keep referring to the fact that the money designated is not enough because they(the NDC) spent more than 1billion cedis to fight a similar outbreak, Ebola, during their administration.

To him, the outbreak of the virus should not be an avenue for Government officials to spend the country’s money.

“We have made available GHC 2.8 million to fight the virus, now the NDC’s Mintah Akandoh is saying that that money is not enough. The NDC wants us to use all of Ghana’s money to fight the virus which is not yet in Ghana. This means if it was the NDC in power, they would have spent more than 1billion cedis for this virus. They would have used this virus as an opportunity to spend Ghana’s money.

“They keep saying the coronavirus infection is dangerous and the money is not enough but there is no infection more dangerous than Mahama’s presidency. There is only one dangerous infection wide world and that is Mahama’s administration,” he alleged.

Explaining his point, Abronye DC recounted the hardships Ghanaians endured under the John Mahama administration such as the inability of banks to pay depositors funds, power shedding among others, a situation he says resulted in the deaths of many Ghanaians, especially the youth.

“If you are looking for an infection with no cure, it is the Presidency of John Dramani Mahama. They should spare us with the talk about coronavirus being scary. Do they know how many people died under the Presidency of the former President? There are people whose businesses collapsed under the former Government and people who went for bank loan to set up their business but they lost their monies due to dumsor and they killed themselves

“Look at between 2015 to 2016, check the number of people who committed suicide across the country. When you go to Nigerian, their own sickness is the operation of the terrorist group, Boko Haram. In Ghana, it is the presidency of John Mahama, you can’t even compare,” he added.
