Another “dumsor” looms in the next two years – Former Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor hints

Member of Parliament for Pru East and a former Minister for Power in the erstwhile Mahama administration, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has disclosed that the country is at risk of returning to another serious power crisis.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor says an erratic power outages is imminent in the next two years if the current government fails to increase the energy generation capacity of the country.

The Member of Parliament, who was addressing the media explained that the dreaded power crisis, widely known in the local parlance as “dumsor” will rear its ugly head in the next two years since the government has failed to increase the supply capacity of the country despite the fast-growing rate of power demand and consumption.

He therefore admonished government to immediately take steps towards bringing on stream additional power supply units to boost the country’s total capacity and adequately meet the increasing demand for power.

“This country is most likely to face load-shedding in the next two years if urgent steps are not taken from this moment to increase our power generation. Power consumption demand increases between 7% and 15% every year, and it takes a minimum of three years to bring on stream a new thermal plant. We seem to be sleepwalking into a situation of possible power outages as a result of supply limitation,” he said.
