President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has elected Alan Kyerematen to present government’s budget statement for 2021.
This is because the Minister-designate for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, whose traditional role it is to present the budget, is away in the US for treatment of COVID-19 complications, moreover, he has not been vetted yet.
He was due for vetting on March 8, 2021 before approval, but it is still not clear if he will be available for vetting on the set date.
Alan Kyerematen, on the other hand, have been vetted and approved by Parliament as Minister of Trade, but yet to be sworn into office.
He will deliver the budget before Parliament after he is sworn into office.
Sources say the President initially contemplated Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia presenting the budget, but that plan was later shelved.
