President Akufo-Addo and former President Mahama have both consoled Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over the death of his mother Hajia Mariama Bawumia.
According to reports, Hajia Mariama Bawumia alias Maame died this morning at the age of 82.
Sources close to the Vice-President said the late mother of the Vice-President had been unwell for some time now and was hospitalized.
Burial is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, 14 September 2021 in Walewale in the North East region per Islamic customs and traditions.
Hajia Mariama was a native of Kpasenkpe in the West Mamprusi district of the North East Region.
She was one of the few girls from the northern part of the country to have gained admission to Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast.
In a consolation message to his vice, President Akufo-Addo said “on behalf of my wife, Rebecca, my family, the Government, and the people of Ghana, I convey deep sympathies to the Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, on the sad loss of his mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia.”
The President also prayed for strength for Dr Bawumia and his family, and also prayed for eternal rest for Hajia Mariama.
“I pray for strength for him and his family in these very difficult times. May Allah grant her soul eternal rest and the highest level of Jannah.”
Meanwhile, former President John Mahama has also called Dr Bawumia to commiserate with him.
“I just got off the phone with my brother, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, to console him and the entire family on the loss of their mother, Hajia Mariama Bawumia earlier this morning. May Allah grant her a peaceful rest,” he said in a Facebook post.
