Firebrand journalist with the Despite Media Group, Afia Pokuaa popularly known in media circles as Vim Lady has jumped to the defence of former President Mahama condemning the numerous trolls by a section of Ghanaians targeted at him after the President’s Akufo-Addo’s address on COVID-19 last Sunday.

The host of Okay FM’s Egyaso Gyaso show cannot fathom why some people will choose to make mockery of the former President on social media after President Akufo-Addo announced some relief packages to minimize the socio-economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on Ghanaians.

Speaking on the show on Monday, April 6, 2020, she explained that it is not the responsibility of the former President to manage the national crisis but rather the responsibility of the sitting president who doubles as the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Given this, she insisted that attempts to draw the flagbearer of the NDC into this to make mockery of him are “far fetched.”

“Some people are trolling former President Mahama on social media. Those trolling the former President should be careful else I tell you fire burn you, people. Why?” she quizzed.

Afia Pokuaa further explained “there is a president in the country who doubles as the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, he manages crises. If he has decided to absorb water bills for the next three months, although he should have added electricity bills, [how does it concern former President Mahama].”

She added that those claiming President Akufo-Addo has won the next election solely because of his COVID-19 Relief Packages must brace themselves well since the former President is yet to outdoor his campaign message and therefore drawing such conclusion is premature.

Taking to social media to express their joy after President Akufo-Addo’s announcement last Sunday, some Ghanaians said the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama has no chance of competing with President Akufo-Addo since they’re not in the same league anymore.

According to them, the only seat ex-president Mahama can win, is if he stands for the position of an Assemblyman or class rep at any tertiary institution.

Others also told the NDC flagbearer to use his house as a treatment and isolation centre for COVID-19 patients and that will be a sure bet for him to win the 2020 elections.

While some were of the view that he stands a chance against President Akufo-Addo if he buys a Benz car for each Ghanaian, others said he needs to see Okomfo Anokye to fight death and bring Ghanaians the key of life or better still, produce the cure for coronavirus so he wins the heart of the country.
