President Akufo-Addo has lauded the acting Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu for the significant strides he has made in the fight against corruption since his appointment.
According to him, Mr Akuamoah Asiedu has demonstrated extreme professionalism and independence of view so far which his predecessor, Daniel Domelevo couldn’t do.
This the President believes is a clear manifestation of his readiness to fight corruption.
Mr Akuamoah Asiedu has been acting as Auditor General since August 2020 after Mr Daniel Domelevo was asked to proceed on his 167-day accumulated annual leave. He was subsequently retired by the president.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Ghana National Anti-Corruption Coalition at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo said processes are already underway to confirm Mr Akuamoah Asiedu as the substantive Auditor General due to his professionalism.
“I think on the basis of the work that he has done, the independence with which he has gone around with his work, if today efforts are made to confirm him, I believe it should be done, and that confirmation process will gather more public support,” he added.
“In our history, the 12 statutory reports that have to be compiled and placed before Parliament in the year of Parliament, this is the first time it has ever been done,” the president said.
Comparing the tenure of the two, the President said in the short stay in office of Mr Akuamoah Asiedu he has been able to achieve what Domelevo couldn’t do.
“Even the most touted Auditor-General before him never managed to do it and this one has done it,” he said.
