Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kwame Baffoe has insisted that the accusations he levelled against former President John Dramani Mahama were not mistaken.
According to him, every single word he uttered was not done in a vacuum but rather hinged on substantial evidence, which he is ready to provide anytime he is called upon to do so.
Former President John Dramani Mahama, through his counsel, Tony Lithur on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, lodged a criminal complaint against Abronye DC for describing him as the killer of the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta-Mills.
He also urged the CID to investigate allegations that he (Mr. Mahama) and some elements of his party, the opposition National Democratic Congress have plotted to assassinate him (Abronye DC) and some members of the NPP.
But in a counter-petition to the CID today, May 11, 2020, the NPP Bono Regional Chairman maintained that his claims were true and called on the police to expedite investigations into the matter.
“I wish to state categorically that, a politician of my calibre acknowledging very well the laws of this country, I will never make any statement, allegation or utterance(s) without the necessary evidence having at the back of my mind that, as a legal norm in Ghana and other commonwealth nations, ‘he who alleges must prove'”, he said.
“I have not breached any statute and for the avoidance of doubt, I have a barrel full of better and further particulars (evidence) comprising of audio recordings, phone calls recordings and WhatsApp messages to substantiate seriatim all my claims and allegations concerning my statements about an alleged plot of assassination against me.”
Abronye DC questioned why the NDC flagbearer chose to respond to other claims he (Abronye) made but was silent on the death of the late President, an indication he insists that Mr. Mahama has a hand in his (Atta-Mills’) demise.
He further requested the police service to reject Mr. Mahama’s petition, arguing that the police is not an appropriate institution to investigate mentally ill persons as suggested by the opposition leader.
“Furthermore, granted without admitting that I have an unhinged mind, I firmly believe the Police service is not an avenue for investigating comments or reports of persons who are mentally incapacitated. On that basis, the complaint by Mr. John Mahama should in its entirety be disregarded or be thrown away,” he stated.
“It is important to note that John Mahama has no moral and equitable rights to lodge a complaint to the Police accusing me or any other person of peddling falsehood because he is the grand lord of peddling falsehoods in this country.”
“On the other hand, I firmly believe this will afford your outfit (CID) the opportunity to initiate investigations into the death of the late Prof Mills because he was a national asset. Ghanaians must know the utmost cause of the untimely death of the late President in order to bring finality and totality to this matter,” he added.
Abronye DC further called on the police to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Mr. Mahama for making certain comments that have the tendency to disturb public peace which breaches the Criminal Offenses Act 1960 (ACT 29).
Among others, the maverick politician intimated that “on the 12th February 2020, Mr. Mahama while speaking to some Western Region fisher folks who paid a courtesy call on him at his Cantonments office, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer said EC Chairperson, Jean Mensah, and her outfit will be held responsible if the country is plunged into turmoil after the 2020 general elections.”
In addition, Abronye has called for the arrest, investigation, and prosecution of one Col. Lante Coleman Lawson, ADC to the late President Atta-Mills for failing to protect him (Atta Mills).
“Under the prevailing circumstances of the demise of the late president, it was alleged that all security and closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) were malfunctioning. It was further alleged that, as at the time the former president was being rushed to the hospital, the whereabouts of his ADC, Mr. Col Lante Lawson was not known,” he claimed.
“From the above, I am humbly calling on the CID to arrest and investigate Mr. Lante Lawson because from all angles it is clear that, he failed to protect the former president.”
In his letter to the Police, Abronye also attached a pen drive which he says contains saved audio recordings and WhatsApp messages of intel to substantiate the assassination plot against him.
