A non-Akan 2024 flagbearer will better show NPP’s diversity – Northern group

Must Read

A group calling itself the Concern Electoral Area Coordinators and Polling Station Executives of NPP in the Northern Region has said the only way the party can show its true diversity is to elect a non-Akan flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

They described themselves as the principal grassroot mobilization force for the party, claiming to know how debilitating the propaganda of the NDC has been in describing the NPP as an Akan party.

The group opined that the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu made the “most logical argument” that it will be unwise to present another Akan presidential candidate to succeed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Convener of the group and Electoral Area Coordinator for Zogbeli, Alhassan Inusah, who addressed a press conference in Tamale said, the history of the NPP since 1992 has played into the propaganda of the NDC and that the view by the Majority Leader resonates with the greater majority of the NPP membership.

Alhassan Inusah also described as laughable, accusations that Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonus is pursuing a Vice Presidential ambition with his recommendation of a non-Akan flagbearer.

He argued that the Majority Leader is on record to have advised Alan Kyerematen to partner a non-Akan presidential candidate of the NPP, so the allegation the the Majority Leader has personal agenda is unfounded.

The convener noted that there is a group calling itself Concerned Northern Grassroot of NPP, which is sowing discord in the party by bastardizing the call for NPP to field a non-Akan flagbearer in 2024.

He described that group as a “funny group”, saying that their checks reveal that there is no such recognizable NPP group in the Northern Region.
