2022 FIFA WCQ: Five potential players to be handed Black Stars call-up ahead of Nigeria clash

Ghana coach Otto Addo is expected to name his squad for the final play-offs of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria in the coming days.

Black Stars will take on the Super Eagles at the Cape Coast Stadium on March 25 in the first leg before travelling to Abuja for the return leg on March 29.

The winner of the tie will represent the continent at the World football showpiece which is scheduled to take place from November 21 to December 18, 2022, in Qatar.

MX24 Sports has selected five players who are likely to be named in the squad.

Hearts of Oak midfielder, Sulley Muntari has been outstanding for the defending Ghana Premier League champions since signing for them.

The former Inter Milan ace scored his first goal for the club in their 2-1 win over WAFA on match week 19 at the Accra Sports stadium.

Muntari’s experience could be a welcome boost for the Black Stars as they set sights on qualifying for the global showpiece.

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu, according to reports has finally agreed to play for Ghana, however, his availability is dependent on his recovery from a hamstring injury he suffered against Aston Villa.

He is currently rated as one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.

AS Roma’s Felix Afena-Gyan, who missed the Africa Cup of Nations and turned down Ghana’s invitation twice is expected to be named in the squad finally.

The 19-year-old has scored two goals in 13 Serie A appearances so far this season for Roma.

Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo, who was born in London to Ghanaian could also make the squad.

Semenyo has been in fine form for Bristol, scoring six goals and providing eight assists in 22 games.

The 22-year-old was adjudged EFL Championship Player of the Month award for January 2022 after scoring three goals and providing three assists.

Finally, Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Leeroy Owusu could earn his maiden Black Stars call-up.

Owusu moved to the Netherlands at a younger age and has previously represented the Netherlands at the youth level.

He has made 23 league appearances for Willem II in Dutch Eredivisie so far this season.
