2021/22 GPL: Asante Kotoko lodge protest against Kumasi derby referees

Asante Kotoko have lodged a formal complaint with the Ghana Football Association over the conduct of the referees who officiated the Kumasi derby against King Faisal.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-2 to cross-city rivals King Faisal at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

It was a gallant display by the Reds who had to endure several controversial calls from referee Julian Nunoo and his Assistants, Akwasi Brobbey, Roland Nii Addy, Daniel Nii Laryea and Match Commissioner, James Adjei.

“We have officially complained to the GFA”, Communications and Brands Manager, David Obeng Nyarko told asantekotoko.com on Monday.

Isaac Oppong was denied a penalty after he was caught from behind in the box as what appeared a perfect goal by George Mfegue was disallowed for offside.

The biggest of all the controversies was the referee awarding a penalty after a handball in the opponent box but later rescinded the decision after some consultations.

That was the third time this season, Kotoko have had what appeared to be clean goals being disallowed and the club, this time around, the club is seeking redress at the country’s football governing body.
