The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong Boanuh has announced a ten thousand Ghana cedi reward for citizens who volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the robbers who gunned down an officer at Mankessim, ABC News has gathered.

According to a press statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, the incident happened at Mankessim after a police patrol team responded to a distress call of an armed robbery attack at Zen Filling Station.

The armed robbers, upon the arrival of the police, opened fire on them leading to the injury of two other officers.

The deceased officer, whose identity was not given, was stationed at the Mankessim Divisional Police Headquarters.

He was found with gunshot wounds about 200 metres away from the scene of the robbery.

The assailants, since the incident have been on the run.

The police are therefore calling on the general public to volunteer information that will lead to the arrest of the culprits.

Meanwhile, an investigation is ongoing to establish the facts leading to the death and injury of the victims.
